Indescribable Night: "Paris Skies"
All Saints ASCD25 CD
CD Review
August 1995

You may remember Kate St. John from her days as the angelic vocalist and woodwind player for The Dream Academy, the British pop combo responsible for the U.S. hit "Life in a Northern Town." Since then, St. John has made numerous contributions on vocals, oboe, and sax to albums by Van Morrison, Tears for Fears, and Roger Eno, to name just a few.

Indescribable Night is her debut solo album, a collection of seductive songs and instrumentals ranging in style from French chanson to jazz-inflected pop to Baroque chamber music, all seamlessly arranged and produced by St. John and French composer Joseph Racaille. The CD track, "Paris Skies", is classic Kate St. John, a heavenly mix of arrow-through-the-heart vocals and superbly skillful arrangements.
